Local Roots is currently accepting applications, seeking to fill 2 lunchtime slots for up-and-coming food service entrepreneurs. We are looking for someone with a passion for cooking with a focus on using local, seasonal ingredients.  Any cuisine will be considered!  


Qualified applicants would require lunch preparation one day a week on a recurring basis. 

 As a chef, you will have access to our commercial kitchens, where you can not only prep for lunches, but expand your business opportunities.

Market Lead

Join the leadership team at Local Roots Market and Café, a local grocery cooperative, and help drive the growth of access to local foods. This role places you at the center of the fast-evolving local food landscape. You will help showcase and sell market inventory featuring the best quality local products from more than 250 consignment vendors and a growing retail program.​

Position Responsibilities:

  • This position will be responsible for the daily management of a locally focused grocery market. It will report to the company’s Executive Director and share daily recaps with other Market Leads:

  • Establish and maintain excellent relationships with local farmers and food producers, seek to find and develop new opportunities to bring local food to the market.

  • Manage the daily tidiness and cleanliness and safety of the market

  • Responsible for daily sales, inventory management, inventory receiving, market cleanliness

  • Ensure product compliance with all licensing, hygiene and health and safety regulations

  • Manage register operations and ensures cash reconciliation processes are followed by all associates

  • Provide direction to staff members to achieve daily, weekly and monthly tasks

  • Maintains operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Qualified individuals will demonstrate evidence of the following skills, attributes and experiences:

  • Self-starter, hard worker and confident leader, customer service driven

  • Passionate local and/or natural food enthusiast. Interested in making healthy and local food accessible and convenient for everyone.

  • Food retail or service experience (minimum 2 years)

  • Leadership experience: ability to manage additional staff, operations, P&L, multitask, etc.

  • Commitment to customer experience: maintain high standards of customer service, be responsive to customer feedback.

  • Reliable, organized, clear communicator.

  • Constant drive to improve.

  • Must have or gain immediate proficiency in Excel, POS and accounting software

Compensation for this position is hourly, $15-20/hr.

Marketing Manager 

As the Local Roots Co-Op’s first dedicated marketing position, this person will be responsible for creating, leading and applying brand development/marketing strategy. This position will lead a team of part-time marketing support staffers, directing and managing online, in-store and out-bound marketing of both products and services. The Marketing Manager will share the Local Roots’ story by developing and implementing marketing and advertising campaigns, tracking sales data, measuring and reporting ROI of all programs, promotions, sales and special events, promotional materials inventory, planning meetings, record keeping, preparing and presenting reports to staff as well as for the Local Roots’ Executive Director and Board of Directors.


  • Lead Regular Marketing Team Planning/Meetings

  • Weekly Newsletter Buildout and Execution

  • Direct and Support Social Media/Online Marketing, including but not limited to,    

website, Instagram, Facebook, Google

  • Positively Represent Local Roots and local foods systems through community

outreach/networking and collaborations

  • Promotional materials design and implementation

  • Promotional Event and Program Coordination

  • Assist in the development and implementation of the company’s brand strategy



Job Requirements

  • Ability to operate with creativity, innovation and organization

  • Ability to lead others

  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills

  • Adept with social media/online marketing programs, including Instagram, Facebook,


  • Project management experience.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Knowledge or a determination to educate self of web analytics.

  • Proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite, Canva, WIX and MailChimp

Store Associate

  • Up to 20 hours per week

Calling All Artists

Open Call for Mural Submissions


Submissions Due: August 1, 2021


Local Roots Market & Café is considering the addition of a mural to the Northside of our building. The space will be above the current large pane windows in the Market and approximately 10' x 40' (15% of the square footage of the wall). The artwork will adhere to a board tapped into the side of the building. It will not be directly applied to the brickwork, therefore digital illustrated artwork is encouraged to apply in addition to traditional mural mediums. Please no submissions of photographs, they will not be considered.


Local Roots supports local growers, makers and creators that produce seasonal, sustainable foods and art. Our collective focus is on growing a vibrant community and thriving economy. The mural should invoke those ideals. 


Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the site, both where the mural will be located and inside the market, prior to application. 


Compensation will be available to the artist for their artwork. Local Roots will cover all construction costs.

- Full color rendering of your scaled design in jpeg or png format

- Portfolio of previous work (2-3 previous examples)

- Budget (if applicable based on medium)

The Local Roots Marketing Committee and Local Roots Board of Directors will review submissions. Once selected, the proposal will be submitted to the City of Wooster Design & Review Board. Upon final approval, the artist will be given a contract from Local Roots Market & Café to be signed prior to the start of the project.
