This hands-on class explores the history and variety of tamales (one of the oldest human foods!) while learning the step-by-step cooking process-from making a from scratch masa to setting up a DlY steaming pot. We will be focusing on banana leaf tamales, featuring two fillings, achiote chicken and Joy's famous refried beans! Each person will take home their custom tamales but we will also be sitting down at the end of class to have a traditional tamales meal, complete with sauces, toppings, and tropical beverages(non-alcoholic)!

*Please bring along a container to fit 6-10 tamales to take home.

*Please note, space is limited so registration will be non-refundable.

A note from your instructor, Joy Irias of Buen Provecho

"As a self-taught chef, exploring my Honduran food heritage has always been a primary focus. And after 10+ years of working a variety of cooking jobs (food trucks, in-home personal chef, restaurants, catering) in the Columbus area, I’ve come to realize what I love most about cooking professionally is giving people unique experiences. Teaching folks how to cook traditional Central American dishes that I watched my abuelita cook is an honor and i’m excited to come home to Wooster to share with all of y’all!"
